Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has revealed he was shocked by the club’s lack of interest in offering him a new contract.

The Belgium international announced earlier this month that he would be leaving City at the end of the season, despite being a club legend who helped the team achieve great success as one of the finest midfielders in Premier League history.

“It was a bit of a shock. I hadn’t had any offers from the club all year, the club made their decision. Of course I was a bit surprised, but I have to accept it,” De Bruyne said.
“To be honest, I think I can still perform at this level as I have done before, but I understand the club’s decision,”
De Bruyne joined City from Wolfsburg in 2015 and has won 16 trophies, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2023.
He also suggested the club’s struggles this year may have contributed to the decision, although Saturday’s 2-0 win at Everton boosted their hopes of securing a Champions League sport for next season.
